As part of an ongoing series of guidelines addressing the prescribing of opioid medications, the Governor's Cabinet Opiate Action Team has released prescribing guidelines for outpatient management of patients with acute pain.

The guidelines encourage non-opioid treatment options and limiting the amount of opioids used to treat acute pain.

In the last two years, GCOAT has released prescribing guidelines for emergency departments and acute care facilities, as well as treatment for chronic pain lasting longer than 12 weeks.

All three sets of prescribing guidelines, as well as other tools and information, are available on the GCOAT page of the OhioMHAS web site.
