General Description:

Works with students, teachers, administrators and parents in prevention education. Serves as a resource to implement prevention education strategies within the Wood County schools and communities, using evidence-based programs that promote social-emotional learning and safe school environments.

Essential Functions:

  1. Remain abreast of prevention education guidelines, policies and directives on the federal, state and local level.
  2. Communicate with school administration and staff on progress of prevention education programming.
  3. Represent the interest of identified youth by serving on various community and prevention-related committees.
  4. Help students become productive citizens through prevention education strategies.
  5. Assist Wood County students in increasing developmental assets.
  6. Work with school staff identifying students who need assistance and providing educational screenings and referrals as appropriate.
  7. Develop county-side and local community programming based on local data.
  8. Contribute to grant writing process to subsidize funding of special projects.
  9. Submit on-site Service Activities Log (SAL) information and other required reports to supervisor in a timely manner to generate reports for ADAMHS Board and other funders.
  10. Follow up on referrals in a timely manner and direct referrals to appropriate resources and agencies.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as substance-free citizens;
  2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values; and
  3. Conducts other activities related to the on-site prevention specialist’s duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator/Supervisor.
