Job Description

UMADAOPFC is a substance abuse education, prevention and recovery non-profit agency in Columbus, Ohio. The agency focuses on the needs of the African American and at risk target populations in Franklin county. We provide a foundation to build and rebuild violence and substance free lifestyles, for youth, families and communities.

We’re looking for a highly skilled executive director to help us fulfill this important undertaking. Reporting to the board of directors, the executive director will oversee the strategic and operational efficiency of our programs and staff. This seasoned leader not only understands current trends in the field of substance abuse prevention, but has proven experience in grant writing and developing/implementing a fundraising plan.  Prior experience managing and hiring staff is essential, and established relationships with local African American and at risk communities. Above all, he or she will be comfortable in a leadership role that demands clear communication and decisiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •       Work closely with board of directors, local and state partners, informing, assessing, and addressing issues that       affect the organization
  •       Oversee the daily operations of the organization, providing executive direction of all program strategy, compliance, quality assurance, and program efficiency
  •       Identify and implement staffing requirements for efficient operations, maintaining a strong culture and work climate that attracts and retains staff, and drives the organization’s mission. Manage, supervise, train and mentor program and administrative staff. 
  •       Ensuring that the agency is compliant and operating in accordance with OMAHS prevention certification standards. 
  •       Prepare monthly fiscal and statistical reports. Prepare mid-year and annual narrative and evaluation reports.
  •       Develop informational workshops designed for community educational awareness relative to substance abuse prevention and other related issues affecting the community. 
  •       Primary grant-writer and fundraiser for the agency.
  •       Serves as lead for the agency’s annual audit.
  •       Serves as a member and participates in the statewide federation of UMADAOP programs.
  •       Attend local and state sponsored meetings.

Skills and Qualifications

  •       Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science, public health or related field of study.
  •       7+ years of senior management experience, preferably with a nonprofit
  •       Strong public relations, marketing, and fundraising experience
  •       Knowledge of leadership and management principles related to nonprofits
  •       Proven success working with a board of directors
  •       Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization
  •       Successful track record in grant writing

Preferred Qualifications

  •       Advanced degree
  •       Certified Prevention Consultant
  •       Experience managing budgets
  •       Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
