The Greene County Educational Service Center is accepting applications for:

GCESC Prevention Specialist

Prerequisites:

  • Education—Bachelor's degree in Social Services/Social work or related field
  • License:  Applicant must be willing to pursue and complete or currently hold a license qualifying to provide Prevention Services (see below) 

“Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist” (OCPS) means an individual who holds a current, valid certificate as an Ohio certified prevention specialist, issued by the state of Ohio, chemical dependency professionals board, according to Chapter 4758. of the Revised Code.
 
“Ohio Certified Prevention Consultant” (OCPC) means an Individual who holds a current, valid certificate as an Ohio certified prevention consultant, issued by the state of Ohio, chemical dependency professionals board, according to Chapter 4758. of the Revised Code.

Applicant must currently hold a license qualifying him/her to provide Prevention Services under OAC 5122-29-20 or OAC 5122-29-30. If the candidate does not hold the proper certification at start of employment, then it is expected that s/he earn Certified Prevention Specialist license within one year of employment.

  • Applicant must have work experience in the field of prevention — specifically, with students in grades K-12. Work experience of at least two years is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with substance abuse prevention, ideally SBIRT
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, organizational skills, and technology/computer skills
  • Ability to be flexible and professional in dealing with staff, stakeholders, partners, and students
  • Must possess considerable knowledge of community organization principles and resources and community prevention needs
  • Solid knowledge of current trends and developments in prevention programs
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate prevention programs for diverse populations
  • Ability to be proactive in finding resources and partners to aide in implementing programs for students
  • Strong and positive work history and attendance records
  • Must be a self-motivator who is adept at planning schedule and timelines.

General Duties and Tasks:

  • Comply with GCESC policies and procedures.
  • Conducts, coordinates, and implements prevention services and activities on behalf of the organization.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with partner agencies and school districts 
  • Participates in all necessary meetings and trainings
  • Leads various student programs/activities such as Youth Led Prevention
  • Have ability to survey stakeholders, examine needs assessment results, and implement programs based on those results
  • Ability to team with various people from various agencies and districts

Reports to Mental Health Department at GCESC.
 
This is a grant-funded position, with funding dependent upon renewal and/or extension of funds.
Salary dependent on experience and funds available.
