Grief & Advocacy Conference (Columbus, Ohio): The G.A.P. Network

June 1, 2019

When: June 1, 2019; 9:00am - 4:00pm

Location: TBA (Columbus, Ohio)

About: Every day accidental drug overdose claims 14 Ohioans, and those reeling from the loss of a loved one often can’t find a place to turn. The G.A.P. Network (Grief to Advocacy for Prevention) connects grieving families to resources and is building communication channels in Ohio to support advocacy and education about prevention.

This educational conference will address:

  • An overview of the current addiction epidemic
  • Substance Use Disorder and behavior
  • Coping with grief
  • Combating stigma
  • Advocacy for prevention
  • Peer support options

  • Dr. Nicole Labor, DO, BCFP, BCABA
  • Julia Ellifritt, LISW-S - Cornerstone of Hope
  • Pete Bliss - Grief Care Fellowship
  • Sheryl Hirsh - Assistant Director of the Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University. (Lost her daughter in 2013)
  • Brenda Ryan - Local Advocate. Founder of Keys to Serenity (Lost Daughter in 2016)
  • Tyler Begley, OCPSA - Prevention Action Alliance

Continuing Education(CEUs): 5.75

These conferences bridge the gap between families and community members to experts and resources. Families impacted by a loss of addiction, professionals seeking resources, and community leaders will leave with larger networks, more tools to combat these tragedies, and will gain support from each other.

For 2019, our theme is “Erasing the Stigma” with workshops that support Coping with Grief, Advocacy for Prevention, and Understanding Addiction & Behavior. The conference is deeply rooted in the science of addiction and how that impacts our personal, civic, and professional lives. We dive deep into appropriate grief and coping related information.
